Games and sports is a priority on the agenda of activities of YMCA. It has recently joined WE CAN-Campaign to End Violence Against Women (CEVAW) – a campaign launched by OXFAM, GB in South-Asian countries with youth as its prime focus. In collaboration with other organizations and groups, YMCA, Cuttack involves itself in issue-based campaign and advocacy with specific objectives addressing specific groups. YMCA Cuttack identifies itself and work with the people to form a community based on the spirit of self-help and local autonomy. Laying emphasis on educating and empowering people and focusing on youth, YMCA aims at creating a society based on the community. It has always promptly responded to people’s needs with appropriate interventions, more so, when the needs are acute like after natural disasters. Through its various projects and programs, YMCA Cuttack caters to the specific needs of the youth and vulnerable groups. Over the ages YMCA Cuttack has grown manifold both in terms of area of coverage and fields of intervention. It was established in 1893 by “Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das” (Utkal Gourav meaning pride of Orissa). YMCA Cuttack is one of the oldest YMCAs in India and is part of International YMCA Movement. YMCA Cuttack has spread its activities at many places in Orissa. Remnants of the ancient “Barabati Fort” near YMCA, stands as a symbol of social and cultural heritage of Cuttack- the “Millennium City” or “Silver City”. Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) is situated in the heart of the city of Cuttack, on the bank of river Mahanadi, in the state of Orissa, India.
